General Information
Cape Tribulation Rainforest Hideaway offers unique B&B accommodation in an owner-built, solar-powered house with handcrafted timber furniture, tap water from a mountain stream and no mobile phone reception so you can truly escape.
Bed and breakfast is not everyone's preferred accommodation style but this is not your average B&B, the cabins in the rainforest assure your privacy and your stay here will give you an insight into sustainable jungle style living.
This accommodation is well located within walking distance of Cape Tribulation "town"centre, breathtaking beaches, National Park boardwalk, restaurants, bar and shop. And surprisingly, the nights are mosquito-free!!
Cape Tribulation is where the Daintree rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef and this assures a wide variety of activities to explore this very special part of our planet and therefore a stay of at least two or three nights is recommended. Activities include; snorkeling / scuba-diving, horse riding, guided rainforest walks, 4WD safaris, seakayaking, jungle surfing, exotic fruit tasting, crocodile cruises and fishing.
Of course you can also take it easy and laze on the paradise beaches, relax on your verandah with the sounds of the rainforest birds,spot some of the abundant wildlife or refresh in the spa rockpool. We have a fire place to dry things in the wet season and warm us in the winter.
This is the perfect place to get away from it all, Cape Tribulation is not really a town but a wilderness area on the beach with only about eighty permanent residents, twenty houses, four resorts, a couple of restaurants and some small shops.
Rainforest Hideaway is not yet another resort, it is small, quiet, casual, and managed by its owner who has virtually single-handedly built the entire place and there are usually no more than six guests.
Having travelled the world himself for many years and seen many standard places to stay he wanted to create something unique and homely and (according to the comments in the guest book), it has been succesful.
Your breakfast;
- There are several local farms that specialize in exotic fruits from all corners of the globe,depending on season your breakfast may include; soursop, rollinia, mango, chocolate pudding fruit, star apples, jackfruit, rambutans, mangosteens, etc. Grown on the property are bananas, papayas, water cherries, pineapples and passionfruit.
- Home made yoghurt.
- Locally grown Daintree tea.
- Coffee, toast, choice of cereals and fruit juices.
- Aussie Vegemite!
- Visit by the cassowary during breakfast (if you're lucky).
As Cape Tribulation has no mains electricity this house runs on solar power which rules out the use of airconditioners. In summer fans are provided but the rainforest with its massive evaporation of water works as a natural airconditioner and keeps everything cool.
Tourism in Cape Tribulation is very seasonal and from June to September but especially July and August advance booking is highly recommended.
