Sunshine Coast Diving
Sunshine Coast. There are close in, relatively shallow reefs and bombies plus colourful coral grounds within sight of shore. Enjoy some of the best diving the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Inner Gneerings, Outer Gneerings, Murphy's Reef and Mudjimba Island are all among some of the richest undersea dives in Queensland. You can also try diving on Wolf Rock and Flinders Reef and other great locations off Moreton Island. Add to that the soon to be established wreck dive of the HMAS Brisbane & it's a diver's paradise.
Sinking The HMAS Brisbane - On July 31 2005, explosive charges saw the decommissioned HMAS Brisbane warship sunk off the Sunshine Coast to create a world-class dive destination and artificial reef. The vessel was scuttled about 2.8 nautical miles due east of Mudjimba Island. This puts the ship in 28 metres of water and approx. 9km. from the mouth of the Mooloolah River which has one of the safest bars on the east coast.
